Do you have any of these questions when you use the toilet in Japan?
In Japanese toilets, there is a sign that says something like, “Be sure to soak the toilet paper in water.”
However, in the toilets of your home country, words such as “Flushing toilet paper is strictly prohibited” are posted.
Why is this difference?
Actually, it all depends on the type of paper, whether it can be flushed down the toilet or not.
Toilet paper and tissue paper are made from plant fibers, and the manufacturing process is almost the same.
Toilet paper is designed to be easily loosened by water. The fibers that enter the water quickly, guaranteeing a toilet blockage.
Tissue paper is designed to be durable. It is resistant to tearing even when it contains moisture such as snot.
Toilet paper is made from either recycled paper or hardwood with short fibers. By using more short fibers, it is easier to loosen and dissolve in water.
Tissue paper is alomst made from coniferous trees with long-fibered. During manufacturing, a chemical called wet strength agent is used to make it difficult to loosen.
This is the origin of the difference between the two papers.
However, even toilet paper, which is easily loosened, does not dissolve into water.
You should be careful about throwing in a lot of toilet paper at once, it can cause a toilet blockage too.

しかし、母国のトイレでは、トイレットペーパーを流すこと厳禁などの言葉は貼っています。
なぜこの違いはありますか？
実は、トイレに流せるか、流せないのか、全部紙の種類に拠るのです。
トイレットペーパーとティッシュペーパー、原材料は植物の繊維で、製法もほぼ同じくしています。
トイレットペーパーは水にほぐれやすさを重視しています。水に入る繊維が素早く解ける事でトイレつまりを保証しています。
ティッシュペーパーは丈夫さを重視しています。鼻水などの水分を含んでも破れにくいです。
トイレットペーパーは古紙か、繊維の短い広葉樹から作られています。短い繊維を多く使うことにより、ほぐれやすくし、水に溶けやすくしているのです。
ティッシュペーパーはほとんどは繊維が長い針葉樹から作られています。製造の中に湿潤紙力増強剤という薬品を使ってほぐれにくい加工をしています。
これは二つのペーパーの違いの由来です。
しかし、ほぐれやすいトイレットペーパーでも、水に溶け込みことではありません。
一気に大量のトイレットペーパーの投入は注意しなければなりません、トイレつまりの原因になります。
